A real wasted opportunity. If the Immortan Joe character wasn't actually called Trump would anyone be able to identify him as such? They couldn't even bother to give him a comb over.
You know, this kind of thing only works if you write Trump AS Trump (Circular speech patterns, drunken babbling, and so on). This feels like a comic someone wrote a while back, but they've just changed a few bits and pieces to make it socially relevant.
Were there ever comparable comics during the Bush or Obama administration? (I heard of a "Barack the Barbarian" comic, though it doesn't seem to be on scans_daily)
Antarctic Press has good stuff, but they occasionally get into, I dunno, Politisploitation?
Though with Barack, it was 'President Evil' where he fought zombies and the Republicans joined to help him. It was a more innocent time.
Honestly this is not their best stuff, and not a shade on the original Time Lincoln (which is a really fun adventure comic and doesn't parody modern politics).
I made some posts here back in the day, but alas, Photobucket's demise has taken down all the images! So the best place to see some preview pages is Comixology (or just Buying the trade)
It's not a comic, but but the blogger Random Acts of Shark wrote the Obamadammerung, an epic periodpunk* fantasy about the then-current 2008 U.S. Presidential election:
Oh good, a whole five minutes went by without another piece of fiction shouting "TRUMPS FUCKING CRAZY! HE'LL DESTROY US ALL!" (and its multitudes of variants, spin offs, sequels, prequels, interquels, reboots,....) that I actually made the mortal error of thinking people got sick of bloody American politics invading everything to remind us again that Trump is in fact, freaking nuts and will destroy us all. Because nugget of wisdom hasn't been regurgitated in absolutely everything in relentless fashion for almost a year now.
It's trying to follow the schtick of the earlier Time Lincoln comics (which were by a different creator), where it'd do twists on historical figures. He didn't just fight Fidel Castro, he fought Cuban Commander, Apocalypse Mao, and Mephitler!
It's good to see all the most important elements of Fury Road here... women being naked, men solving all problems, and absolutely nothing having wheels on it.
They've still got good stuff- the steampunk stuff tends to be solid, and they've got a book called 'Anya' which is an anthology comic with women writers. But yea, some of their side projects are pretty eh. They had a financial problem a few years back which might be part of it, made them scrap the bottom a bit more.
Founded by girl geeks and members of the slash fandom, scans_daily strives to provide an atmosphere which is LGBTQ-friendly, anti-racist, anti-ableist, woman-friendly and otherwise discrimination and harassment free.
Bottom line: If slash, feminism or anti-oppressive practice makes you react negatively, scans_daily is probably not for you.

*So what prefix is going to denote the 2000's, I wonder? (And do retrofantastic takes on 80's culture qualify as punkpunk?)

What does the half-hearted Fury Road homage gain you? Besides leaving about basically everything that made me fall in love with Fury Road?
