The issue picked up where the last'd left off, with the two parts of the mystery changing places.
The boy James-Michael Starling, having run away to his first home with his friend Dian, had vanished in a flash.
Dian, his adoptive caretakers, the Defenders Valkyrie and Hellcat, the Wasp (lending a Quinjet to the Defenders), and the summoned Moondragon were left with the body of Omega the Unknown.
The boy'd gone where the man was- he was now in the clutches of the mad Ruby Thursday and her Dibbuk.
She made to do to him what she was going to do to Omega.
Then one of the robots after the boy burst in on them.
Hellcat, Valkyrie, the Wasp, and Moondragon were outside that scene- they'd followed the robots.
They found the robot that'd found the boy, as it was going through a wall.

" Save your breath, Valkyrie. Your headstrong partner is being made aware of what I can do! "
Moondragon watched the Defenders and the Wasp fight Ruby and her Dibbuk, then turned her attention to James-Michael.
She watched the boy wander anguished through the street, observed him as he noticed some of his robot hunters in one of their saucers above.
She observed him raising his hands and blasting the saucer out of the guy with a power that was becoming familiar to him.
Walking over to the wreckage, she saw one of the robots still alive.
She bent to it, touched it- and learned the truth of the situation.
She rose and ran.
" In their blindness, the Defenders may have doomed this world- and only I can hope to save it! "
The Defenders were struggling with Ruby and her Dibbuk.
' This is ridiculous! ' thought the Wasp. ' The Avengers would have mopped up these clowns by now! '

The anguished Dibbuk took Ruby away.
The Defenders and the Wasp turned their attention to James-Michael, who was exercising his power all over Las Vegas and the robots hunting him in their saucers.
He turned on them, blasting them aside.
Moondragon lay prone near him, having felt his power's effect.
Hellcat watched him unleash a blast that brought a saucer down on the Quinjet she and her friends'd arrived in.
" Dian and the others- all your friends- they were in there! "
James-Michael turned and ran towards the Quinjet.
Hellcat went to the prone Moondragon, who asked her to take her hand.
" Okay, but I don't know what good that will- arrgh! "
" I am.. sorry, Patsy! In training you in the powers of the mind.. "

James-Michael saw a world.

He saw Omega.

He saw Omega empowered.
He saw Omega's creators come for him.
He saw Omega unleash " .. the pain and the passion and the fire to which he alone [was] heir.. "

The power in him roared..

.. and subsided, consumed by itself.

(This is almost certainly not what was originally planned for Omega the Unknown.
This was definitely Steven Grant gamely tying up a loose end to stop mail asking about it.
There's also a plot assist credit for Mark Gruenwald on this, probably for Moondragon's role.)
