Batman #50 - "The Wedding of Batman & Catwoman"

I'm such a simple writer. I only write sort of little simple themes, and there are two driving themes of the whole thing and those are Catwoman and Batman and their love, and Bane and Batman and their hate. It's contrasting those two just simple concepts. That's the driving engine of all 100 issues, from issue 1 to issue 103, which is where I'm gonna end the whole series. -- Tom King

I do suspect that this was done so they can overcome it and get married.

However, my problem is that, even assuming the marriage is still going to happen and King IS going to deliver, so far I feel like my time was wasted. And I have felt like that since "The war of jokes and Riddles" forced us to wait for the answer.

I understand building up to that moment in which they do eventually say "I do", but that still requires making the read be worthwile.

Very disappointing month for weddings, between this and X-Men Gold. Of course, I predicted that of the two, this one wouldn't happen, so .500 batting average ain't bad.

Funny thing is. it matched with Steven Universe's wedding special (which did happen)

I love the bits with guest artists. Reminds me of what they did for a milestone issue of Daredevil, with previous artists each doing a panel of an epic fight between DD and Kingpin.

I do have to question Bruce's plan to protect his secret ID from the guy marrying them. Unless by "drunk" he means "dosed with a much less potent form of the magical memory eraser used against Lex Luthor in the series finale of Smallville..."

DETECTIVE COMICS #600 theorizes that for there to be a Batman, Bruce's mind puts the Death of the Waynes on a constant loop. Bruce can't live a normal life so he won't be tormented by constant failure because that's what Batman wants. That was written by Sam Hamm, who also wrote the 1989 Batman movie.

Of course, this leads to Batman being a jerk who hates the Justice League and has other hangups.

Say what you will about the guy, but having grown up in the 90's I can't help but associate him with Catwoman, and for better or worse I think he had a significant role in increasing and maintaining her popularity. His creator owned stuff these days is bonkers, but I have to say I respect him for doing what he loves and apparently maintaining enough of a fan base that he can make a good living off of it.

Holly became a serial killer who murdered over 200 terrorists responsible for bombing her orphanage, and at some point between Batman #15 and this she got caught and imprisoned in Arkham. She might be doing this because she didn’t want Selina to get married in fear of losing her, or maybe to get revenge on Batman for exposing her.

That, or Psycho-Pirate shenanigans.

Yeah, is that a year or two wait now? I don't mind curveballs. I just think DC screwed this up by hyping the wedding while knowing it wouldn't happen. People feel as if they had the rug pulled out from under them. If they do get married two years from now, a lot of people will be 'meh' about it. Fool me once...

I want to be excited about a future wedding, but I just can't work up the enthusiasm. Once the air is let out of the balloon...
