Date: 2018-11-29 12:38 am (UTC)At least part of Peter keeping his identity secret was to protect May and MJ. Mixed with "May would drop dead that instant if she ever found out because reasons." But in CIVIL WAR...
1. The unmasking. That happened because 600 people were killed in Stanford. Peter put the death of 600 strangers against May and Mary Jane, even though BOTH of them told him to unmask.
2. Leaving Tony Stark's side and hiding May and MJ in a motel. Again, Peter put strangers ahead of May and Mary Jane. In this case, the strangers were the heroes imprisoned in the Negative Zone. That was why Spider-Man switched sides.
So twice Peter put strangers ahead of Aunt May and MJ, and that resulted in Aunt May getting shot. And ONE MORE DAY. That would make Peter a little more hesitant about revealing his identity.
