Daredevil #612
Nov. 28th, 2018 10:20 am
So Daredevil and co. deduce that Fisk stole the election with assistance from the Mad Thinker. Fisk resigns. Daredevil later has an encounter with the Vigil (the weird assassin from before) and unmasks him only to see that it's... himself.
Matt wakes up on the operating table from after he got hit by the car at the beginning of the arc. In other words, nothing since then really happened.

Date: 2018-11-28 03:40 pm (UTC)The ending someone else suggested -- that Matt discovers after all is said and done that Fisk won legitimately and has a crisis of faith that causes him to abandon New York -- would have been a more satisfying ending.
Honestly feels like Soule didn't know how to tie everything together up in the time he had and just threw up his hands.
At least Fisk is still Mayor, that's one good thing.

Date: 2018-11-29 05:09 am (UTC)Daredevil is gone, but Hell’s Kitchen is still a place of heroes and villains. Foggy Nelson (issue #1), the Defenders (issue #2), the many loves of Matt Murdock (issue #3), the Kingpin (issue #4) and a mysterious Guardian Devil (issue #5) will all learn what it means to live in a world without a Daredevil. And without a Daredevil to protect it, has hell come for his city? Who is The Man Without Fear?

Well done, yes, but still, a rather unhappy commentary on futile merry-go-round that is serialized, open-ended storytelling. You don't call attention to the fact that your hero can never truly win, never truly make a lasting difference, because what if your audience agrees and decides it's time to stop riding as well?
I don't blame Matt if he decides to fuck off for a long while, after that sort of realization.

Date: 2018-11-29 06:37 am (UTC)Think but this, and all is mended,
That you have but slumber'd here
While these visions did appear.
And this weak and idle theme,
No more yielding, but a dream,
Gentles, do not reprehend;
If you pardon, we will mend.
And, as I am an honest Puck,
If we have unearned luck,
Now to 'scape the serpent's tongue,
We will make amends ere long:
Else the Puck a liar call.
So good night unto you all.
Give me your hands, if we be friends,
And Robin shall restore amends."
