On a side note, can I just say that I appreciate how strictly y'all enforce the S_D rules? That makes it a lot easier to talk about/recommend this community as a place which shares and discusses comics in an ethical manner. :) (I was at a convention, talking to an old friend-turned-pro writer-turned-comic writer and I found myself explaining that S_D was about appreciating comics, not pirating them.)

Okay, lines like these make me feel as though Steve doesn't talk to his friends of colour (or other minorities) about anything that might actually shake his belief in America or what America 'is'.

Because he be making some asinine statements. His circle of peers are probably insufferable.

Anyway, Spider-woman's costume is horrendous. All the old one needed was an illustrator who wasn't inclined to spray paint costumes on women (so not Clay Mann). Christ. (And maybe some black to offset the garishness)

Its fucking galling. Look there are plenty of people who look around today and think "things are worse than they have ever been" but Cap shouldn't fucking be one of them.

The America he grew up in literally tested out the super solider serum on black people, sent Cap to fight in a segregated army. The idea that America today has somehow fallen from its ideals of his day is nuts.

Am I the only one who thinks it's weird that these divergent heroes would all gather together as some kind of patriotic team? I mean, that's Sue Storm there, right? She has seen so many countless worlds and literal Gods on her travels, does the idea of nationhood really mean much to her at this point?
I mean, I hope there's more to it, but gathering together lots of characters - all with their own motivations and backgrounds and whatnot - under the umbrella of patriotism is a little odd to me?

Can somebody explain why there needs to be an all female team? Every time it's done it just feels like a cheap gimmick.

That is because they've been done as a gimmick.

That you have only two examples of actual all-female teams doesn't really suggest to me that we've got enough to data to suggest any sort of trend, other than that we've had so few all-female teams to draw many conclusions, personally.

The Defenders started as an all-male team and has never been a big seller for most of its run. Its certainly true that for most of its run it hasn't been solely male, but every time they bring them back (as they just did) it comes back to the OG team as a starting point. A-Force was supposed to be a limited series but it was received so well that post-Secret Wars they tried to make it an ongoing. It didn't stick, any more than Black Bolt as Casino-runner did

As this is just a loose group shown in another character's ongoing, I'd rank this alongside the Lady Liberators, some versions of the Serpent Squad/Society or Wonder Man's Revengers. They're just some characters that show up, hang for a while and then never talk of it again. Is it a gimmick? Probably. But these days, more than half the comics that come out are cheap gimmicks, IMHO.

You might want to check your facts, A-Force was doing well until it was tied down to Civil War II.

And it's not like these characters are getting a spin off, so what are you complaining about.

It's also pretty sexist to say all female teams never work. You're seem to be forgetting books like Birds of Prey. It shows that there aren't much examples of failures when you have to point to a movie when talking about comic book hero teams.
