There was a Spider-Man/Fantastic Four miniseries in 2010.

It was a spiritual sequel to an X-Men/Spider-Man mini back in 2008.

(It also came right before a certain turn in Jonathan Hickman's Fantastic Four.)

The first issue was Johnny Storm and Peter Parker, back in the latter's Empire State University days.

The Four were on campus, at the personal request of Doctor Doom.

Doom wanted his enemies to serve as his bodyguards during the negotiations the university was hosting - with Latveria's geographical neighbors, for non-aggression treaties.

The satisfaction Doom was getting out of that irritated Johnny and Ben: " Wotta revoltin' development this is. "

" Look at it this way, rockface-

" The day can't get any worse. "

Spidey dropped in to pick up where Peter left off.

Their banter was interrupted by the coming of Namor, Atlantean legions in tow.

The Sub-Mariner wanted revenge on Doom, for having betrayed him during their team-up against the Four (in Fantastic Four #6).

Sue, Reed, and Ben held off Namor and friends, so that Johnny and Spidey could get Doom and the other European heads of state to ESU's panic room.

" Why don't you go out there and give Subby the fight he's after? " Spidey asked Doom.

" Gladly. But my hands haven't yet healed from the Thing's attack. I cannot form the gestures the dark arts require. "

(" [T]he Thing's attack " was the climax of Fantastic Four #40.)

He could, however, pull off his Ovoid mind-transferral trick - which he did on Johnny.

" Enjoy your time in the body of a man, stripling. "



The battle on campus turned into a three-way between Doom-in-Johnny, the rest of the Fantastic Four, and the Atlanteans.



(The lock on Doom's mask is clearly not just biometric.)



" Enough! The battle is over! Namor has his revenge.

" To a man like Doom, humiliation is a fate worse than death. "

The Sub-Mariner and his forces left.

" That's one peanut gallery taken care of. We better go make sure Torchy and Doom don't get up to any more shenanigans. "

When you say Post Dark Reign Fantastic Four do you mean the rest of Hickman's run? Or what can e after it?

Mistake - I conflated Dark Reign and Siege, somehow.

(There's no way a mini concerning him and his history with the Fantastic Four, released less than a year before FF #1, wasn't some kind of intentional.)

It kinda works for me. Why would Doom body-swap all the time when he sees everyone else as inferior?

Plus too many mind transfers is just tempting fate. You know its only a matter of time before he unintentionally gets into a Freaky Friday situation with the accursed Richards.

Points for authenticity. Most flashback comics set in this era whitewash the past by filtering it through an Archie lens..

Here Gwen is insane, Peter is a dick, and Harry and Flash are clearly wondering why they all hang out.

The "whitewashing" is usually associated with Romita's run. This is an example of the characters during Ditko's era.

I'm not sure when exactly this takes place. I assumed it was JRSR because Gwen and Harry were only around for half a year of the Ditko run.
