Later, Roy steals some painkillers and leaves. He goes to his old house where he finds some looters and attacks them. Dinah comes and tries talking to him.

1) She was cured of that when she was dipped in the Lazarus Pit.

2) Hello, Sin? (though I was wondering if that was intentional, and we were supposed to be thinking of her when he said that)

Later, Roy is taking his anger out on a punching bag when he sees Prometheus's face grinning. Screaming, he knocks the bag off.

What's with the title: justice league tag? That makes it sound like it's in the regular JLA series or something.

Um, if anyone's justified to use painkillers at this point, it's Roy. He lost his freaking arm, he's got to be in serious physical pain.

Besides which, any doctor probably would have written him a prescription for pain pills, given his physical trauma. This is stupid.

They already had him on the slow morphine drip. I agree, there is a world of difference between using narcotics as a shield from the world, and using them to stop actual physical pain.

It looks like he's trying to use them as performance enhancers here, which has its own set of problems. But he states in a page not posted that whatever painkiller he stole does not work very well on the nanomites.

The fact that he's pounding the bag and focusing on a goal, finding Prometheus, tells me he's in the polar opposite of the headspace he was in during "Snowbirds Can't Fly."

(You're not an idiot BTW. My Dr. House icon just seemed relevant to this crappy, crappy plotline.)

I thought of Sin when Dinah said "I may not have children of my own". Because if she says that than she a) doesn't consider Sin her child or b) Sin is as out of continuity as Dinah no being sterile.

Is DC even that good with the idea of people who are good guys becoming villains? I know they can exist--Harvey Dent started out good. But so far I don't know how they're planning to handle a guy this sympathetic being a full villain. Though I suppose it doesn't have to last. I just wish I could trust that they really mean to use a story like that to strengthen the relationships he has in his life, but so often it seems like what they really want is an excuse to make a character isolated and not having ties to anyone. I don't know why they think this is more interesting than a flawed person with flawed relationships who loves and is loved imperfectly.

They tried it with Hal Jordan (currently their number one seller) and it never stuck because the fanbase just refused to accept it (even after they gave the so-called big "heroic" death in Final Night), they did it to Cassandra Cain and to of all people Mary Marvel and those were absolute disasters that made those characters radioactive (notice they've disappeared). So yeah, DC sucks at making heroes villains.

Yeah they can't come up with a different plot twist. As usual, Lian and drugs are the only thing interesting they can think of to do with Roy. How typically unimaginative.

I like the tubes stuck dead-center in his amputation site, myself. I'm trying to decide if they've got him in a pink bandage of some kind, or if his morphine drip has just been embedded directly into his damaged flesh.

I read Dinah's silence as tolerance. Like Sam said in Supernatural when he was explaining how nice people could become serial killing ghosts: "Ghosts are like wounded animals. They lash out because they're in pain." (paraphrasing) Except this applies to everyone. Unless you have a lot of self control and realize that you're misdirecting your anger, people are going to get hurt, even if they don't deserve it.

In my experience, when someone else is in that pain, you shouldn't get all offended and fight back. They're hurting enough. And if they're good, they'll apologize when they're in their right mind again.

...okay, seriously, SERIOUSLY?!

First off, what kind of drugs is Roy POPPING there? I know he was an addict ages ago, and I know he's a superhero, but he's not a meta and he's not an alien. Unless he stole regular strength painkillers he shouldn't require a fistful.

Also, wow, way to be an ass, and I have a hard time believing that Roy would go right back to drugs. I know that once you've been a druggie you never really totally kick the habit and you crave it BUT...

I just find it hard to believe that the first thing he'd do is go straight to drugs. Not even resisting that hard. He gets out of the hospital and jumps right there?

...just. No.

Starting a new thread, probably repeating some...

I'm going to throw my nurse's-cap (not that I ever wore one - they are very unsanitary and my school (PENN) was the first to forbid them) into the ring.

Am I am expert? Pretty close... We use opiates on nearly all our patients in end-of-life for pain and breathing management and I spent 8 years in the ER. Plenty of family/friends too plus dual diagnosis stuff (psychiatric/addiction)

Handfuls of pills - hell yeah! - addicts gain additional number of the receptors (mu) that get the 'high' or euphoria off the opiate (or narcotic) - that is why they need more to get as high. Even over time, the amount of those receptors may not lessen significantly and large amounts of opiates may be needed to manage a former addict or abuser's pain in something like a broken bone or surgical situation and needs to be monitored with the addictions therapist.

Although he'd likely chew the pills, open the capsules or place them under the tongue for a quicker high.

Some have mentioned the morphine high as being sedating - depends on the person. For example, it can be paradoxical - an opposite effect - it can make you rev up (Percocet makes you Perky!) Especially for people with bipolar disorder (AKA manic depression) or mania.

Would he replapse quickly - three weeks is the usual threshold, but it's brain chemistry so any addict is at risk from the first pill, drink, Dove Bar, whatever your addiction is...

I'll go now... sorry to bring real world medicine into the comics again, and I am not going to get started on that stump and it's management...
