scans_dailyIn the same month's Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #13, the partnership of Bucky Barnes and the White Wolf'd dissolved.
The Wolf, transformed by his willing connection to Arnim Zola's Dimension Z, turned the monsters under his command into invaders of Earth.
Bucky, who'd only brought the White Wolf into his " bring down the Century Game, whose players moves' guide the world's currents " scheme because the Wolf had things he needed, confronted him.
Steve, Sam, Sharon, and Misty's journey towards Bucky and the White Wolf neared its completion.
When they arrived, they came in with a frontal assault - and, at Sam's suggestion, for each other's foes.
Steve and Misty went for the Wolf and his wolves, and Sam and Sharon went for Bucky and his ally Peggy Carter.
" You can call me Destroyer now. "
(She's taken up the name after Roger Aubrey's death in Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #10.)
Away from the fighting, Sharon and Steve's adoptive son Ian sat in a cell, listening to the Black Widow.
(The Widow'd looped herself into these events to help Bucky.)
" And I'm afraid.
" What if victory.. just isn't enough? "
" Hi, dad. " said Ian. " You look terrible. "
" Ian, you're alive. " said Steve.
" Let's go home. "
" Dad.
" I can't. "
Ian went to take the throne of Dimension Z - the throne that the White Wolf'd only been able to take because he'd drunk of Ian's genetics.
(You've got to wonder what his sister's reaction to this will be - wherever she is.)
Steve worked it out.
(Arnim Zola having been taken out of commission back in April 2022's Captain America #0, the White Wolf was Bucky's easiest way to get to Dimension Z.
The Century Game wasn't entirely rooted in Zola's super-material - that became a focus in November 2022's Captain America and the Winter Soldier Special #1.
As for why the Wolf was leveraging Zola's technology for his own separate work, instead of any other solution? It was probably convenient.)
So the issue, the story, and the two books it'd spun out of - Steve's Sentinel of Liberty and Sam's Captain America: Symbol of Truth - effectively ended.
(Peggy exited the scene with the Widow's assistance.
Symbol of Truth had one more issue, and there were stories in July 2023's Captain America #750 - those were character tie-offs.
There was a Captain America Finale issue this month that tied off the Century Game plot - and there's going to be a new Thunderbolts run this December, giving us more of Bucky in this vein.
