Krypto vs. Atlas!

This is from Superman #679-680. It's written by  James Robinson and  illustrated by Renato Guedes.

At the end of #679, Atlas (working with someone later to be revealed as Sam Lane) has challenged and defeated Superman.








Before you go any further, you should read the first few pages of Krypto's battle with Atlas over here.




The energy hitting Krypto is something that weakens Kryptonians.







Superman runs off and gets Zachary Zatara to give him some magical protection, and then he returns and finishes off Atlas. Everyone starts cheering for him.

I'm not saying that he's comic relief-- he's normally portrayed as a loyal, sweet dog who will protect his master, which is what he's doing here, I'll grant, but I've never seen Krypto attacking someone portrayed in such a brutal manner, and that doesn't mean he can't look totally bizarre to me while wearing a little cape and doing so . . .
