Joker and Luthor killed Alex. But SPB and Alex spent a long time together in the hell dimension place, Alex is going after his friend first, knowing he's chock full of rage.
Also, I must contest Alex's observation. The box ain't just a conduit for rage. Just add together all hype for future MMO's, all the porn, all the warez, all the people going "Awww." at hang in there kitten, 2girls1cup video... That box is the white lantern, if anything.
Okay, I like this, I really like this and I wouldn't mind reading an entire series about Prime acting like this issue here and getting in to comedic situations set in Earth Prime.
This is from an interview during the time the Sinestro Corps storyline was starting out.
NRAMA: If we had to lay money on it, what’s the safer bet – that Superboy Prime could redeem himself, or he’s a member of Bad Guys 4-ever?
GJ: I think it’s a split. You saw his reaction when he did what he did in Infinite Crisis, but at that same time, he’s walked over that line. Does he think he can walk back? Should he? Does this universe even matter to him anymore? Is it the fact that, now that he’s got a big dent on his car, another one won’t matter? If he’s already on that path, is he going to continue on it, or is he going to really try and work and go back?
It’s a tough thing, but of course, the parallel is Hal Jordan, which is why he works so well in that book. It’s no mistake or coincidence why Superboy Prime is going to be dealt with in Green Lantern quite a bit.
I think it would be interesting if he did try redeeming himself, but I don't know if he's done too much now.
The Ordway art is pretty good in the pages I've seen. Miles above his last JSA arc art. He must have gotten a good inker?
Also on Superboy-Prime. I'm not sure what Johns is thinking when he writes S-P (and it has, with the exception of Countdown, been almost all Johns on the character). On one hand, it was GJ who turned the heroic boy from COIE who sacrificed everything to save others into a whining obnoxious mass-murdering fanboy parody (sometimes I think Johns wants S-P to be to him what Animal Man is to Morrison - a way to get meta with the readers) but at other times like the Annual during the Sinestro Corps that featured things from Prime's point of view he comes off somewhat sympathetic, he's just a kid with chip on his shoulder and powers 10x that of New Earth Supes.
Personally, I have a soft spot for S-P just because Johns has made him into such a straw man. Sort of in backlash of how he's been treated. I don't think I'm the only one.
Was I the only one who expected to hear Transformers Jokes through this whole thing? Cybernetic villain greets "hero" with "Hello, Prime?". I mean....damn, I almost expected a Megatron Expy or something.
I'll admit, Prime Time really was funny. This character is such an annoying pain in the ass, but that's one thing they got right when they decided to make him a villain. He is a good villain.
Okay, I normally don't skip most of the comments but through my CONDUIT of RAGE I must type that this issue genuinely made me give birth to lolmissiles.
I started picking up Adventure Comics last ish, so I am clearly not in the loop, being more of a marvel reader. However, I've read about superboy prime on wiki and comms and forums, and I'm still really confused. Does this relate to Superman: Identity? Does prime live in 'our' world? I thought he was in a prison. I picked up this issue and did not understand what was happening at all. If I don't get it by now is it worth me trying to understand, or is it better for me to live in blissful ignorance and pretend I haven't read this?

Date: 2009-11-19 06:08 am (UTC)As for Prime being in prison; he was at the end of Infinite Crisis, but the Sinestro Corps freed him later on.
This was the last time we saw him before this ish.

And yeah, Earth-Prime is basically supposed to be "our world."
