Parallax!Hal destroys the Spectre's Black Ring, freeing him. Then Atrocitus tries to turn him into a Red Lantern.




Then the Spectre goes to take on Nekron.

I still stick to my personal theory that Nekron is the Great Evil Beast or an aspect of him...

Since he is basically merged with God (if Wiki is to be believed), however considering Shade, Obsidian and others draw powers from it's former realm; The Great Darkness, it's not much of a stretch to say that Nekron is tapping into the power of the Great Darkness and using it to create BL Rings, it also explains his new look and everything.

Also, if I've got John's interpretation of Nekorn right, he is basically part of the natural order of things, Nekron just is. He was the first thing around when the universe was born, there was peace. Then living things appeared and ruined everything.

So he's/it's a more personalized manifestation of the same force of darkness that arose in Alan Moore's American Gothic Swamp Thing run?

I think there is a difference. The Great Beast appears to be a side effect of Creation whereas Nekron is part of it. The part about Nekron drawing power from the same power source as Shade and Obsidian is pure speculation on my part.
