Closure doesn’t exist outside of fiction. Life is a messy succession of changes, some incremental, some sudden, and everyone moves at different speeds; only in fiction do we get the satisfying (if fundamentally dishonest) neatness of a synchronised ending. Think of the last episode of a TV show in which, over the course of an afternoon, the core cast members variously marry, move to a new city, find their long-lost adopted son and, in at least three separate instances, get their comeuppance. Spoiler alert for any non-grown-ups reading this: life, sadly, isn’t like that. -- James Roberts

Season's Greetings, fellow s_ders! Today's theme is "Favourite family moment," and as our mods are allowing us to interpret "family" as we wish, I found myself thinking of the "true companions" sort of family, such as, let's say, a close-knit band of adventurers. Like the Peacemakers at the core of Guilded Age, co-authored by our community's own [personal profile] tcampbell1000. The following scene has one adventurer reach out to his token jerkass teammate and try to mend fences, in the spirit of Axemas (the medieval-ish fantasy realm Arkerra's equivalent of -- what else -- Xmas).

In 1991, Marvel published WITHIN OUR REACH. All proceeds went to two charities AmFAR for AIDS research and Sempervirens Fund for the preservation of the redwoods. All the creators donated their work, and all licensing was done free of charge.

It includes a Sherlock Holmes story and something called "Brother Elf."

Sherlock and the Elf. Two different stories. )

Apologies for the lateness of this post, various events intervening.

So on this, the first day of our theme week, we're looking at family moments.

Whether it be Diana with her sister Amazons, Clark, Lois and Jon with their more traditional family dynamic or Bruce's seemingly endless ability to construct family around him comics have a wide range of family structures (And those three examples are just on DC's side, don't even get me started on what the X-Men might translate family as, both genetic and found).

So what are your favourite family moments from your comic reading experience. Something fluffy? Something aspirational? Something real?

Please do share in the comments below, and share scans in your own posts if you can.

I leave you with hint as to one of mine under the cut.

Gosh, I've been so busy with the Mod stuff, that I forgot to post this as li'l ole me! But there's about 20 minutes left of the day in my time zone, so I'm sliding in under the wire!

Over the years I've like to present a little bit of fanart as a gift to the community, and in lieu of a Christmas card
