"I love Hulk. I have a HUGE pitch in my back pocket if I ever get called upon." - Donny Cates

It started out as one thing, but we integrated it and I spoke with Phillip Kennedy Johnson, who's doing the Superman stuff, and I really like that guy, he's very smart and he has got big ideas for Superman. What I did was kind of retrofit it all in so it absolutely ties in, it's kind of important. If you don't read this, you'll probably die! -- Grant Morrison

noscans - how do you read yours?
Aug. 17th, 2021 05:54 pmDonny Cates and Ryan Stegman have signed with Substack to make comics for them.
I've not heard of Substack, but from their press release it looks like Cates and Stegman are using it as a patreon alternative.

Digital copies of Vanish, The One You Feed and Flood as they're produced.
Monthly video chat hangouts and podcasts with Donny and Ryan and Megan and assorted comic book friends!

Script creation, ranting and raving from Donny Cates.
Plus MUCH, MUCH MORE!

Flood #1 / standard cover A (physical copy)
EXCLUSIVE access to merchandise ONLY YOU can purchase!!
Lots more EXCLUSIVE perks throughout the year!
GOAT ANNUAL LEVEL: $300
-Everything in the monthly and annual levels, PLUS...
-Vanish #1 / standard cover B (physical copy)
-Vanish #1 / Skottie Young Substack exclusive variant cover (physical copy)
-Vanish #1 / Daniel Warren Johnson Substack exclusive variant cover (physical copy)
-The One You Feed #1 / Substack exclusive variant cover (physical copy)
-Flood #1 / Substack exclusive variant cover (physical copy)
I can't think of any creatives that I'd follow to a platform like this, especially for $8/month, and with no guarantee of a regular release schedule.
There's been a lot of different attempts to get into the comic market in the past few years, including
Bad Idea (Comic books only available in comic book stores, but only a select few!), which didn't last long,
TKO Studios, which makes box sets of singles, digital trades and has a diverse looking catalogue of "shorts". I really recommend Sara, which is Ennis being let loose to write about women shooting Nazis in WW2.
Currently, I'm splitting my comics reading between Comixology for DC and indie books and Marvel unlimited for stuff that I'm intrigued by, but not $4 intrigued by. I've not bought a floppy in years, and tend to only get physical trades of things I've already read and enjoyed.
How do you read your weekly comics now?

For people who are fans of wonderful nineties comics, which I am, because I grew up on them, we did a tribute to Gary Frank and Peter David’s weird, very bizarre, Supergirl run where she has the angel wings. -- Tom King
