DC announces new banner - Dark Matter

So DC have a new line of books coming out, under the banner (Not an Imprint, a banner, apparently it's a different thing according to Dan Didio)  Dark matter, and details were released at the Diamond Retail Summit

Ethan Avery only wanted to serve his country, but promises of becoming the ultimate weapon leave the new recruit living a nightmare. I'm not sure if he tranforms INTO the monster, or summons it, which would at least be something different.

The Silencer is the only one that attracts my interest. Everything else looks like they were drawn by Marc Silvestri.

" World's deadliest assassin " is like being on the New York Times' bestseller list- demonstrate any quality in a noticeable amount, and you can claim it for a week or two.

Tbh the only concept that really grabs me out of all the above is Ghost Fist, and that's only because it's an interesting time & place he's drawn from...oh, and Silencer I like the sound of; even though she's not really doing anything new, I like the idea of suburban housewife being a secret assassin

My problems with the new challengers is this:

It's been done before. Chaykin, Loeb have both tried to reboot The Challengers.
Then I saw it was Snyder and my desire to read this faded away.

I want to see writers like Roger Stern, Karl Kesel and Doug Moench back on titles. Not the same bunch of people that already is putting their mark on things.

Admittedly I'd like to see some old familiar names get back in the game, too. Gerry Conway seems to be having some success at Marvel with his Spider Family comic so I think that's proof that potentially the older writers still have something to contribute. And those guys are around the same age as Mark Waid, right?

Looks interesting. All of the concepts are kind of dark, but I like that they aren't just flat out superhero stories. Sideways and The Silencer are the most interesting to me.

The Dan Abnett title sounds really fun. And I like Abnett for that kind of story.

The only one that I'm not interested in is the Immortal Men, but I think I'd be willing to give the rest at least an issue to give them a chance to hook me. Unless they're more than $2.99; then I might have to pass on a couple.

I see Sideways has a "cosplay style costume". He does look like he's cosplaying - specifically, as Spider-Man.

I love Snyder and Abnett, but I feel like this effort should have gone towards:

- Rebirth's existing heroes / status quo,
- Refining/bringing back those that haven't existed since the reboot
- The Hanna Barbera and the Looney Tunes crossover initiatives.

Hell, even Didio did a fairly entertaining run recently on Metal Men, during Legends of Tomorrow. I don't think DC needs to juggle all-new characters right now.
