(#3'd been Sue and Peter.)

Peter'd swung over to the Baxter Building, having gotten a text from its comm systems.

He learnt that none of them had sent it - yet there it was, on his phone.

With nothing else to do, he asked Ben if he could get some poker tips.

Ben agreed. They sat down to cards -

" Ah, Spider-Man. You answered my summons. "

- and a very familiar looking armored figure in green warped in.

The other three arrived. There was five against the intruder, with " The kids? "

" Safe in the panic room. "

" All right, Victor. " said Reed. " If you're this eager for a fight- "

" ' Victor '?

" Heh. Oh, Dr. Richards. Really.

" Could ' Victor ' bypass your defenses so effortlessly? Would ' Victor ' know the layout of your headquarters intimately.. "

The figure tapped his mask, and it opened.

" .. because he once lived here? "

" Kristoff? "

From what he'd done with Doctor Doom's books of magic, he turned to the cutting from the Venom symbiote that he'd acquired.

He'd used that to create the titular implement of Mighty Avengers: Venom Bomb.

He revealed that he'd " arranged [its] deployment on American soil.. knowing it would be traced back to Doom.

" And I nearly succeeded. It led to his arrest and incarceration. "

Kristoff went on.

Reed reached out to Kristoff: " You've been studying advanced magic without a mentor. That's incredibly strange. It's a miracle you're alive. But it's clearly affected you..

" .. affected your mind. "

" You think I'm.. mad? " asked Kristoff.

" HOW DARE YOU! "

He unleashed his magic and armor against the Four and Spidey.

Eventually, there was only Spidey and the Thing standing.

" Spidey.. I got it.. I know what his beef is. Stall him.. "

Ben turned and ran, and Kristoff followed.

Peter did too, coming upon Kristoff over a restrained Ben.

" I have defeated the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man. You present little challenge.

" There's no need for you to suffer. Surrender now. "

" Think I'll pass. 'Cause I just figured out what Ben was going for. "

Peter thwipped a nearby book towards himself.

" Whatever weapon you're after, it will change nothing. "

" It's not a weapon, pal. And maybe it won't change anything.

" But it'll prove you're wrong. "

Sue, Reed, and Johnny entered the room.

Reed and Sue turned to Kristoff.

The Four and Spidey stood in the aftermath of Kristoff.

Ben talked about how he'd been in the early days of the Fantastic Four, and how someone could get " too far gone " into misanthropy like that if they self-isolated.

" .. it's more than possible. 'Cuz you're part'a that family, web-head. "

" Yeah.. the black sheep! "

(Pagecount's 7 and a quarter of 22 from Spider-Man/Fantastic Four #4, back in October 2010.

Writing's Christos Gage, art's Mario Alberti, and letters're Jared K. Fletcher.

Five months later, in FF #1, Spidey joined the Future Foundation.

One issue later, Kristoff showed up at the side of Doctor Doom, in a state of mind not at all like this.

Jonathan Hickman gave an answer as to why, in the ComicsAlliance annotations for that issue: " First off, let me say that this is not a situation where I didn't read the series in question. In fact, unless something has changed, you can see a pull quote by me on the cover of the collected version of said series. I not only highly recommend it, but think it's a perfect example of Marvel comics DONE RIGHT (And, as an aside, I'd also recommend Chris and Mario's X-Men/Spider-man).

Saying that...

There is a certain place we need to be with both Doom and Kristoff, and we need to be there within a limited window of time. So, given that, I really only have a few options:

1. Disrespect the other creative team and ignore what they have done completely.

2. Feign respecting what they have done by jamming a quick resolution into the book. However, I would argue that this is actually more disrespectful because it's not just diminishing or whitewashing the previous work, but also cheating the readers out of a satisfying experience.

3. Imply that time has passed, something has changed, and hint at the possibility of more story.

Given those choices I'll almost always pick option three.

That means when Doom says in Fantastic Four #583, "I have left myself with no other moves. Summon Kristoff Vernard from exile." I'm telling the reader that there is more there, and, when it's time to tell the Kristoff story, I have the opportunity to play with not just the now, and where he's going, but also something in the near past that everyone will remember.

So, sorry for the long 'craft' answer, and to answer your original question pointedly:

Yes, he tried to destroy Doctor Doom.

He failed.

Kristoff showed up in a She-Hulk arc, too. He seems to be inconsistent from writer to writer, but some of that may be explainable as due to time travel shenanigans.
