"I think, for the past three or four years when I was working on Mister Miracle, Heroes in Crisis, and Batman, those were all about a combination of that weird panic attack I've talked about a lot, and mental health, and living in Trump's America, where it's, how do you deal with the absurd?

"In the end, I feel they're very heartwarming books, because they're about how I found solace, my wife and my family in the midst of all this fucking shit, chaos, all three of them. And now with Rorschach, Strange Adventures, and Batman/Catwoman, I feel like I'm trying to move on to a new theme and a new way to write. I'm trying to stretch myself in different directions.

"I feel like I won't find the theme till they're all done, and I'll look back and be like, oh, that's what I was actually writing about. But they're much angrier books. They're much more caustic books. This isn't like, oh man, the world is tough, but at least I have my wife, which is a wonderful thing to write about, but I'm no longer writing about that now. It's like, the world is tough and I want to scream and what do I do with that scream? And how does that affect life in general?"

In the comments to these weekly posts (and only these posts), it's your chance to go as off topic as you like. Talk about non-comics stuff, thread derail, and just generally chat among yourselves.

An abbreviated entry today due to other commitments.

The US Electoral College has now formally and conclusively confirmed Joe Biden as the next President of the USA. The current President of the USA has still not conceded.

Georgia's Senate run off voting has begun.

In the midst of triumphant news about the COVID vaccination campaign rolling out, the UK Governemnt has simultaneously had to put London into it's highest level of lockdown because of an increase in cases, and despite also insisting schools don't close early for Christmas, have on intention of changing their mind about the three day relaxation of rules for the days over Christmas. It's all a bit... inconsistent, and most people I know have already pre-emptively decided that they are not going to go an see their family this year.

Germany has also done much the same on a countrywide level.

Brexit just keeps on going and going like a zombie Energiser bunny. Companies are still being told to prepare for a big change sixteen days hence when most of them still have no clue what the situation will be. Will it just be bloody complicated, or INCREDIBLY complicated?

Since it isn't technically on topic elsewhere, please feel free to chip in on the 413 new Star Wars series announced last week by Disney. I sort of lost track of them all.

A Happy Hannukah to those who celebrate it.

Comic book fans everywhere know that The Joker is the most dangerous villain ever to menace Gotham City. But in March, Batman writer James Tynion IV and artist Guillem March go global with The Joker’s brand of terror and mayhem in The Joker, a new monthly ongoing series from DC.

After an unthinkable attack on Gotham City, the Clown Prince of Crime has become the most wanted man in the world! The Joker is doing his best to stay several steps ahead of law enforcement overseas, but Jim Gordon, facing retirement, realizes this is the last manhunt of his life and vows to track down Gotham’s worst nemesis, completing his storied career. But there are some mysterious and deadly forces that are also on the hunt for The Joker, and they’re not going to let Gordon slow them down or get in the way.

“When I was approached by DC about the concept of an ongoing series spotlighting The Joker, I thought, ‘What would that book even look like?,’” said Tynion. “I’m excited to share this story in a way that honors everything that a series about The Joker can be, while coming at if from an exciting, unexpected angle. I’m also thrilled to continue working with Sam and Mirka to expand the Punchline story we began in November as a back-up feature in this new ongoing Joker series. The Joker War was only the beginning of the terror and mayhem we’re creating!”

DC's latest Digital First series is The Challenege of the Super Sons.

Quietly ignoring Bendis' decision to age up Jon Kent for the benefit of his take on "The Legion of Super-Heroes" (and to the detriment of Superman titles IMHO) this has 10 year old Jon and 13 year old Damian still attending the West-Reeve School in Metropolis.

But we open in the far future two, possibly vaguely recognisable, old guys are arguing over a video game based on Robin and Superboy, complaining that the voices are ALL wrong.

Whilst they are distracted two small kids sneak down behnd them and "borrow" (via one of them floating up to a high shelf) a book to read from a wide choice "Adventures of the Super Sons", including titles like "Adventures of the Super Sons: 79", "Adventures of the Super Sons: of Easy Company" and "Adventures of the Super Sons: Crisis of Infinite Earths", but the one they choose is called...
