Excellent news!

DC confirm Hero Initiative to have limited print run

JLA/Avengers will be available in March from participating comic book stores and will be distributed via Diamond Comic Distributors. This 288-page full color, softbound volume features the original 2003 four-issue co-publishing venture between DC and Marvel, written by Kurt Busiek with art by George Pérez. The book carries a retail price of $29.99 and is limited to 7000 copies.

This collection also features 64 pages of companion content and will reprint introductions by original Avengers writer/editor Stan Lee and Justice League of America editor Julius Schwartz. A bonus in the Hero Initiative edition is a new afterword by Kurt Busiek.

George Pérez is a founding member of Hero Initiative’s board of directors and has served as chair of its Disbursement Committee.

Well, that's it. Comixology is gone.

I wonder how long it will be before someone tries to recreate it because the Amazon version is so terrible. AND how long before the comics industry goes back to their own individual apps and web pages.

"A Righteous Thirst for Vengeance is a book that takes it’s time, allows every moment to breathe, until suddenly you’re choking on a jolt of violence or burst of intrigue. These sequences make great use of establishing shots and smaller, quiet panels. The latter are a Remender staple, frequently seen in Deadly Class and LOW. Regardless of how big or brutal the action is, we never lose sight of the characters, how the pressure is working them."

Here's a character who's only been defined by things like the team that he belongs to, the sword he carries around, or whoever he's been romancing at a particular time. To me, that speaks to a very interesting and probably very imperfect character. So, I want to know more about him. I want to learn what it is that makes him so keen to avoid being defined for his own right. -- Si Spurrier

"To undermine the fundamental appeal of superheroes like Superman and Supergirl by re-casting them as anti-heroes at best or outright monsters - dragging imaginary childhood paragons off their pedestals to reinforce a fairly facile point about the tendency of real world heroes to exhibit feet of clay, struck me and strikes me still as imaginatively lazyUsing kids’ adventure heroes to make hackneyed observations about typical human behaviour that does not in fact apply to made up comic book characters strikes me as – I don’t know - whimsical? Dilettantish? A squandering of energy and creativity?

This is purely a personal bias but the desire to compel fantasy worlds to conform to the allegedly superior rules of grim reality can feel to me like a form of memetic colonialism I’ve generally found distasteful and against which I’ve found myself rebelling since I got my start in US monthly comics in the late ‘80s with Animal Man."

“[Prison] relieves us of the responsibility of seriously engaging with the problems of our society, especially those produced by racism and, increasingly, global capitalism.”

Angela Y. Davis, Are Prisons Obsolete?

"They think they want good government and justice for all, Vimes, yet what is it they really crave, deep in their hearts? Only that things go on as normal and tomorrow is pretty much like today."

It's brought back the Joe Casey/Nathan Fox creation whose debut was a Dark Reign mini.

This is his first usage that's not scripted by Casey, and it's a deft one.

He's set up in issue #1, in a scope befitting his history - looking in on Marc Spector's life, and sneering.

' You make me sick, Moon Knight. Or Mr. Knight. Or Jake Lockley. Or Steven Grant. ' )
