"When I proposed to follow Jonathan, I had made a big point that I thought, what had come before was a remarkable gift to those characters, but I also said the cupboard is empty in terms of our villains, and so there had to be a reinvestment period. There had to be new fresh blood if we weren't going to break Krakoa in that way. When you have Pepe Larraz as your collaborator, you can get away with anything. And so, to spend some time and invest in new villains, the better we are to those villains, the more we can give them in terms of page count and story, the better off I think you're going to be long term. And it became Feilong, who, I think, is a great villain for anyone right now. But he presented as this wonderful piece that could knock over Iron Man, and then ask how far down could we push him." - Gerry Duggan

Yes, instead of cyberpunk, my +10 is a near-future "squad of outsiders take on the dystopia" story. Instead of Star Trek, my +100 is Star Wars or maybe Buck Rogers. And +1000 is taking that Warhammer feel, having never played Warhammer, I'm so sorry, and telling a kind of far-future-Camelot story about a heroic last stand against impossible odds and the importance of hope. So I guess it's like Transformers: The Movie. -- Al Ewing

I was going to have a Spider-Man/Wolverine clone at some point, which hit the cutting room floor, but this is the thinking that eventually gave birth to Jon Ironfire, which is what if we had a second Wolverine? What if we invented a new Wolverine? And there was this character who for the longest time we were just referring to in the Slack as Logan 2. "And this is when we meet Logan 2." And that eventually became Jon Ironfire, who made his debut in Storm & The Brotherhood #1, and yeah, people seem to love him. He was sort of designed to hit a bunch of boxes. -- Al Ewing

The first issue – 10 years into the future – is about the ultimate futility of authoritarianism. The tendency for control to eat itself. It's about the oh-so-human realization that when the jackboots are empty and the dictators are out of ideas, what rises to reclaim the light is the wild spark of humanity. Kindness. And big ideas. (The problem is: that last one can get you in trouble. As we shall see...) The second issue – 100 years into the future – is about identity and meaning. It's about a group of people who've shackled themselves to one Big Idea, starting to worry that it might be the wrong one. It's about parenthood and legacy, and stealing magical shit from the most powerful beings in the universe. It's about ritual and love. Above all, it's about saying "why?" to power. -- Si Spurrier

Immoral X-Men luxuriates with the excellence of its pun title and is so full on Evil Mode Dominatrix Emma that I nearly dedicated it to Chris Claremont. -- Kieron Gillen

"I think my job as a writer is to extend some empathy and understanding to a range of reactions. It’s easy to say that anyone who’s rude to newer arrivals is gatekeeping community, but I also think of times in the real world where an actor or athlete came out of the closet and immediately became a public mouthpiece for gay concerns, regardless of whether they were knowledgable or speaking over activists with longer histories in engaging with these topics. I think it’s possible to want to welcome everyone into the community who approaches it in good faith while also being cautious of apparent outsiders taking such prominent, public positions when they maybe haven’t demonstrated their commitment and understanding to you. " - Steve Foxe

From Fantastic Four #43 (Legacy #688). Remember how, all those years ago, characters like Gauntlet and Southpaw were meant to be central to THE RECKONING WAR (puttup)?

Well, now we find out just how they are!

Ah, Britain's greatest heroes, assembled at last! No, not Excalibur, nor MI:13, and the issue itself makes it clear that they're not going with the name Soopey McSooperheroclub.

They're the Union! And these four pages feature all the dialogue that three members of the team get in their first appearance! One of them doesn't even demonstrate their powers! But hey, Phil Schofield started dyeing his hair again for them! Have fun spotting the possible villain!

Not posted here: the hastily re-pencilled pages replacing Empyre's Cotati with King in Black's Symbiotes, proving just how interchangeable these Marvel events are nowadays...

While I'll let someone else post the pages in between, since we last left our heroes fighting an evil changeling wizard or inside a burning orphanarium fighting zombie children, they've been thrown in a river, and then picked up the changeling's trail. The fiendish villain is carrying an artifact of ill repute and vast power, and has taken refuge in a traveling caravan.

As Fell's Five catches up, they find the caravan under attack by Orcs! They break up the initial attack, and force the Orcs to momentarily pull back.

Now, to bring the travelers up to speed, in the most polite and sensitive terms possible.

Why they don't just keep the Rogue gagged is beyond me... )

It really pains me that I can't share more than four pages of this issue now that I've finally gotten my hands on scans, but here are the best I could narrow it down to.

Others MUST step up so the internet can see the glory of discussions of Dwarven aesthetics, why a gnome being fond of you is bad, and the glorious quality of Dwarven pastries. Among other things.

This cut conceals four +3 Scans of Awesome. )
I really can't say enough good about this series, except to say that if I had to cut my pull list down to one title per month, this would be it.
