"The original Ultimates comic had a certain now-ness to it - it felt like quite a pure distillation of the storytelling experiments of the time, especially with Bryan Hitch working at his widescreen best. With the help of Kenneth Rocafort - without whom this comic wouldn't, couldn't exist in the form it's taking - I feel like we're exploring some similarly experimental territory, while at the same time doing our own version of that widescreen visual language." -- Al Ewing

So as I stated in the last post the current incarnation of Yondu is very much a lift of the character from the movie (in which James Gunn completely reworked the character with Michael Rooker in mind as a space pirate). The reasoning apparently is that the classic version comes from "Earth-691" and this is the one from "Earth-616". Now again I'm not at all bothered by this (the different earth distinction even makes sense) but is kind of interesting to see how steadfast Marvel is in making their comics aligned with the films.

Looking at the career of Marvel's oldest continuing character, recently deceased at the hands of a Superman rip-off: Namor, the Sub-Mariner. The other insallments are Stan Lee and Wally Wood's here, Waid's here, and Morrison's here.

Chris Claremont's stint on the Fantastic Four at times seemed almost like SUE STORM RICHARDS AND THE REST OF THE FANTASTIC FOUR. The focus was almost always on Sue, and she, more than any of the others, was portrayed as the most powerful and the most often right. Not that it's not a welcome change of pace from the usual male-centricism of most comics.

So it was kind of fitting that his last FF story, "Abyss" in FF #32 was almost entirely focused on Sue, as she fought with Namor--against a deranged Dorma from the "Heroes Reborn" world. 7 and a third pages out of 23.

'Like "Star Wars," Halloween is a phenomenon that you usually love as a kid, but then start to kind of hate as a cynical young adult, and then you maybe get to fall in love with all over again if you're ever fortunate enough to become a parent. That's an important element of our story, how time changes and destroys and sometimes even resurrects our pasts.' -- Brian K. Vaughan
