A huge thank you to everyone who took part in Web-Comic Week, our most prolific event in quite some time. I saw some old favourites, a couple I'd heard about but never looked at, and many I'd never heard of before.
There were a couple I wanted to post from, but I either couldn't work out how to post them properly, or the author requests that they are not posted elsewhere, which is an absolutely fair and proper thing for an author to ask. But I would feel bad if they didn't get a bit of a mention here.
Check, Please! by Nkozi Uzaku, a series about a
"hockey and friendship and bros and trying to find yourself during the best 4 years of your life. Do not let the "
bros" bit put you off because dammit these characters are amongst the most delightful and engaging you will ever meet (Seriously, if I ever have someone as adorable as Eric "former Georgia junior figure skating champion, vlogger extraordinaire, and amateur pâtissier" Bittle in my life I will count myself truly blessed).
Heartstopper by Alice Oseman (also a novelist), a beautifully observed slice of life story about, in the author's words; "
love, friendship, loyalty, life, time, and mental illness. It explores, among other things, the blossoming relationship between Nick Nelson and Charlie Spring, two boys at a British all-boys grammar school."
Both of these now have print versions available too, and I can heartily recommend both. And anyone who knows my general opinion of team sports will know exactly how good it has to be for me to recommend an ice-hockey based web-comic!
Face All Red by EM Caroll, this horror comic is quite well known already, but in case someone has missed it. And you should definitely check out their other stories.
Behind you! by
Brian Coldrick is another creepy/horror series. Each panel tell's it's own story (ranging form unsettling to terrifying) and uses the gif format to tell it in a way unique to the medium of web-comics. It's like Charle's Addams with a touch of the Clive Barker to it.
And finally for now,
Moth Girl, another lgbt themed series written and drawn by a couple of friends of mine;
stem-cell and
nobiliorpomis.
So, whilst we always welcome web-comic posts, are there any you'd just like to promote, or wanted to include but ? If so, please post links to them in the replies to this post. Let's end the week with a flurry of recommendations!
