For those who don't know, cause I know a few asked -- LGBTQ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered and queer.

Here's a list -- by no means complete -- of at least 230 gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and possibly questioning persons in superhero comics. I don't believe this includes manga or much outside of mainstream books.

So, S_D, who's yours?

Mine is a sexy, manipulative bastard )

My favorite LGBTQ character hails from the realm of webcomics, its Shortpacked Employee: Ethan Siegal

This one was not difficult to do, as I would like to someone the others would respect and follow... and possibly fear for their lives if you piss her off.

You have to be bad-ass and somewhat not right in the head to be able to lead combustible characters that make up the Secret Six.

Slice and dice time. )

It was hard to pick just one character to post about, but in the end the victor was Wallace Wells from Bryan Lee O'Malley's Scott Pilgrim series. Image heavy post! Scans from vols. 1, 3, and 4.

It's come up on here before that, since not a lot of people in S_D read Dark Avengers, not a lot of people know that Victoria Hand is lesbian or bisexual. In keeping with the daily theme, since I think Hand's pretty cool overall, here are the pages from Dark Avengers #11 that detail Hand's past life as a SHIELD accountant.

I had to move all the toys off my Printer/Scanner to get you these scans so you better appreciate them! Explanation for why my printer/scanner is covered in toys not included.

And now for everybody's fictional gay younger brother of Erwin Rommell aka the Desert Fox...

Part of the reason why this is late is because A.) my internet connection was down over the weekend and B.) because my choice isn't exactly popular here. I considered a substitute--either Robert Kirkman or Joe Hill, both whom are writing some of my favorite comics right now (The Walking Dead and Locke & Key respectively). But in the end I decided to go with my gut.

My favorite writer is Brian Michael Bendis.

Admittedly, I'm not that much of a huge fan of some of his recent work--his Avengers stuff has left me feeling a bit lukewarm, and I can't say I really like some of the "events" like Secret Invasion. And it's a bit annoying how he often feels the need to kill off characters abruptly for shock value.

But...at the same time, I really can't think of any other writer whose work I have consistently enjoyed over the years. When he's at the top of his game --Ultimate Spider-Man, Daredevil and Alias-- he's fantastic. And his most recent title, Scarlet, looks like it's shaping up to be something great.

Anyways...I had trouble picking a specific moment, so I picked a scene that Bendis considers to be one of his best (or he did--this was a while ago, so his opinion may have changed since).

...And here you are. Living the dream. )

She wasn't created for comics. She goes back decades before comic books were invented. But, she's been in so many, since, so...

Well, I've got two, actually! From the same work. Problem being that I only have so many scans of one of them, so it will mostly be...

Title: X-Men: Curse of the Mutants - Storm and Gambit (Marvel, 2010, 22 pages)
Creators: Chuck Kim (writer) and Chris Bachalo (artist)
Availability: On Sale Now

I wasn't actually intending to pick this up (or post more Northstar during the 30 Days meme, for that matter), but it showed up at the used book shop near my house and I knew it had a Northstar appearance, so $.75 didn't seem like too much to risk. And hey, he is my favorite LGBT character...

It turns out that this one-shot really isn't a bad little read at all. I enjoyed the story a hell of a lot more than I have anything that's been served up in Fraction's Uncanny (not that this should be taken as endorsement of the new adjectiveless title, which I'm not digging; I just think that Kim knocked his particular installment out of the park). I'm not that fond of Storm or Gambit, but they're written as competent characters with a strong affection for each other, their voices are spot on, and Storm has a choice near the end that really made me feel for what her character's been through since the Claremont days. Bachalo's art is as expressive as ever, even if I don't think his storytelling skills are the best, and there are a couple of pages of Storm kicking ass that are just flat-out gorgeous. So if you're a fan of either Ororo or Remy, you could do worse than to pick this one up.

Not that you're going to see much of them under the cut...

All right, on to the spoilers )

So yeah, general thumbs up on this one.

I know, I know, it comes out tomorrow anyways. But it's interesting because I have no idea how we went from the wild wild west of the last issue to this... obviously stuff has happened. Newsarama has the preview. Some spoilers and head scratching behind the cut.

Is this a bad time. )
