"Much as I'm pleased with THE ETERNALS, there is a matter inherent in their design which is as important as the publication itself. I'm referring to this new concept being fit into the already overcrowded Marvel Universe. I'm sure there'll be many a gleam in fannish eyes over the prospect of Spider-Man or the Thing teaming with Ikaris and fighting Deviants in New York.

"But I firmly believe, after much thought, that the Earth inhabited by the Eternals should not be the Earth of the Marvel Super-Heroes. In fact, it's imperative they be kept separate. In this new series, Jack is going to be answering many of the questions about the why's of human existence and purpose on this planet, which is all well and good; but even if the answers do not contradict already established laws of the Marvel Universe, they will severely limit any possible storylines which might deal with the creation of Man and his reason for being here."

--Ralph Macchio, Eternals #3 letters page, 1976

Last time, Ikaris kidnapped and assaulted Margo and brought her to the New York apartment of the Eternal Sersy [sic] before leaving to fight a Deviant army attacking New York City. The Deviant named Kro has transformed himself into a more Satanic appearance to use the attack to frighten humanity into attacking the space gods.

"Let us suppose that foreign astronauts visited the territory of the Sumerians thousands of years ago. Let us assume that they laid the foundations of the civilization and culture of the Sumerians and then returned to their own planet, after giving this stimulus to development. Let us postulate that curiosity drove them back to the scene of their pioneer work every hundred terrestrial years to check the results of their experiment. By the standard of our present-day expectation of life the same astronauts could easily have survived for 500 terrestrial years. The theory of relativity shows that the astronauts would only have aged about forty years during the outward and return flight in a space-ship that had traveled just under the speed of light!" --  Erich von Däniken, Chariots of the Gods, 1968

Last time, Ikaris and his human companions Doctor Damian and Margo fled into an Incan temple to the Celestials after the Deviant Kro declared the Deviants intentions to wage war upon the space gods once more. As the Deviants fled to their underwater base, Ikaris explained that a thousand years ago, an apocalyptic war between Deviants and Celestials destroyed the continent upon which the Deviants had built their empire. The aftermath of this war gave rise to ancient stories of a catastrophic Flood.

In the temple, Ikaris brought the Eternal Ajak out of stasis. Ajak communed with the Celestial and then Arishem, leader of the Fourth Celestial Host, descended to Earth to put the planet on trial.

Reed Richards is quite wrong... a soviet nuclear tech who had been exposed to a seriously unhealthy dose of radiation while trying to prevent the meltdown of Chernobyl, only to find saboteurs on hand, has been brought to Doctor Estivez, the best hematologist in America, for a bone marrow transplant. But when she unhooks the sedative flow in his containment suit, the Avengers are faced with a man who has gained superpowers from the treatments already given him by the Russians but who still thinks he's trying to save Chernobyl.. Those powers include controls over Nuclear forces... clearly this isn't a situation that calls for the talents of Mr. Fantastic, good thing he stayed home

For the comm's approval, I submit Hank Pym in the midst of two tropes (only one of which I can find the name of) from Avengers issue 366.

First, a Crowning Moment of Awesome, as Not The Quinjet is being attacked by a Kree Sentry.
Fightin' words )
And now, while I can't find the exact name of the trope, it's something we all know. "What do you mean 'oops'?"
