Valiant Comics, ah the 90's a time of gritty, gritty and Liefeld. During this time many a comic company has surfaced but one of the big ones, the one that somehow made it in top 3 or 4 was Valiant! Admittedly this post was inspired by the Latest Atop the Fourth Wall episode, and while I did not grow up in the 90's but I discovered a love of this really cool universe from my mom when She gave some Shadowman comics after a trip to Hawaii. I will be going over the titles, the history and some of the thing and why this company did some good work at least in the beginning. So let's start with the Creation of the Universe!

Okay This is Taken from Solar Zero Alpha and Omega, now this was published in a back up in Solar 1-10 but it's own story and forms the basis of the Universe, it's 69 pages story wise so here's the last Bit's from the comic itself, and to set up my posts here's the breakdown. I'm showing only the last pages.

As a sort-of followup to the "Day the Earth Burned" comic, here's a bunch of Gag comics and 4koma from various SRW games.  I'll try to explain some of the more esotiric jokes, though that may kill them.

Remember, it's manga, so read Right to Left. And More Releena being badass. )

Greetings again fellow marvel lovers, today we have the death of a lesser known supervillain duo.

Who is Hammer and Anvil you say? Fill us in wiki!

Leroy "Hammer" Jackson was an African-American prisoner said to hate everyone and everything. As part of a chain gang, he was chained to a white racist named Johnny Anvil. The pair's hatred of prison, however, was stronger than their hate for each other and they succeeded in escaping the chain gang while still chained together. Hammer stole a .38 handgun from a guard, and when the two encountered an alien who had crashed on Earth, Hammer tried to kill it but accidentally wound up saving the creature's life instead; it fed on metal, and used the bullets fired at it to regenerate. The alien wanted to thank them, and replaced the chain linking them with a device that granted them superhuman powers. The two returned to prison seeking revenge, but wound up battling the Hulk instead

Man...Wish bullets healed me... Anyway onto the story!

But who killed them? Solve this mystery! )

As we've seen with the debates with this post...

http://scans-daily.dreamwidth.org/2972745.html

...there's a bit of controversy regarding the direction of the Bat books. Some object to Bruce not being a loner. What's with these groups and others wearing the Bat symbol? What's with people looking to Batman as an inspiration when he's just supposed to scare the crap out of everybody, good and evil aike? Bruce publicly funding superheroes? What's with that candle swearing ceremony thing?

They all date back decades, in some cases almost as long as Batman has existed.

A look back...

The preview for Flashpoint introduces us to a new iteration of the Marvel Family; six kids, each with one power of Shazam in their mortal form.

That reminded me, sort of, of this story, where Captain Marvel has to deal with a team of villains who share a similar sort of concept.

Well, he IS a 12 year old in an adults body...

From Shazam! The World's Mightiest Mortal #31 in 1977 I bring you

Rainbows are always signs of acceptance, and joy, and equality... well... most of the time )

So it's come to my attention that many folks haven't ever heard of Freight Train who is acting as the muscle for the current Outsiders team bringing in some new blood to the team.

He debuted in issue 30 of the series but his origin story wasn't explained until issue 35 where we discovered how he received his powers.

When he first showed up he was explicitly stated as working for Simon Stagg. Simon Stagg is the father of Sapphire Stagg, Rex Mason/Metamorpho's ex-wife. Java, one of Simon Stagg's workers was also in love with Sapphire and hated Rex for taking "his" girl from him. Sapphire of course loved Rex and so on and since then Sapphire has somehow died very recently. (If anybody knows how that'd be nice to know)

Some issues ago Java even tried killing Metamorpho knocking him out while holding the Orb of Ra (the orb that gave Rex his powers but also hurts Rex if he's near it) and dumping him into Chemo.

Now in the present Metamorpho's been saved by his team mates Owlman and Freight Train and the three go to find Simon Stagg (or Java technically since he's always with Simon) but Freight Train apparently betrays them and lets Simon Stagg and group capture the two.

(Whoo boy, hope that made sense to you folks)

The big plan Simon has is to use Black Lightning as a power source and with research he based off of the Black Rings from Blackest Night to resurrect Sapphire.

Freight Train revealed! )
