Rather than a series of unconnected stories, this fifth annual DC Pride book will feature a framing story, with different characters having their own episode within it.

From the Press Release:

DC Pride 2025 brings DC’s heroes together when a century-old tavern, the center of queer life in Gotham City, unexpectedly announces its imminent closure. It’s a huge loss to the community, and generations of patrons return to pay respects to a space they’ve endowed with entire lifetimes of memories, wishes and dreams—including Alan Scott, the Green Lantern. Alan returns, for one last time, to the place he fell for his first love, Johnny Ladd, to touch the wall on which they carved the symbol of their love, to remember the days before everything went to hell for them…and to say goodbye.

But love is a kind of magic, and, in Alan’s experience, magic can take on a life of its own. Before anyone knows it’s happening, heroes, villains, and civilians alike from across the DCU with powerful ties to this mysterious place—the Question, Midnighter and Apollo, Harley Quinn, Green Lantern Jo Mullein, Bunker, Connor Hawke, and Blue Snowman among them—find themselves spirited away to strange, alternate worlds where everything they ever thought they wanted can be theirs…but at what cost?

Back when the New52 was launched a big deal was made about Alan Scott, Green Lantern, now being gay.

But the gay Alan Scott was not the one we had known since the 1940's, it was an entirely NEW Alan Scott, so whilst increased representation is a good thing, it felt a lot less significant because of the circumstances...

Infinite Frontiers is changing that )

Now that we've relived Identity Crisis (and survived to tell of it), let's take a trip back to the Golden Age, when members of the JLA's predecessor underwent their own, somewhat different crises of identity. This issue-length Gardner Fox story, from All Star Comics #30 (Aug-Sept 1946), is so delightfully cracky it took four artists to illustrate it. It previously appeared, way back when, on s_d 1.0, so no better time to post it again.

I honestly had trouble with this one. Because in truth? There is more than one character I'd like to see come back from the dead.

The characters I speak of all populated a world that was originally five decades old. They lived on a world where the first superheroes appeared and united during World War II and formed the first superhero team in the history of superhero teams. These were the characters that aged in real time, married, and had families of their own. Their own children eventually took over their jobs as superheroes once they were old and retired or had passed on after a long, fruitful life. Their own legacy even led the arrival of a new generation of superheroes that were more diverse than their predecessors.

I am of course, talking about the pre-Crisis Earth-2 in all its Golden Age glory! )

Scowly McBatface is from an actual quote from the issue, by the way.

Food for Thought: This might be an odd time to ask this, but where was Alfred Pennyworth during the night of the Wayne murders? Not accusatory, just curious.

After Crisis on Infinite Earths, the backgrounds of many characters were changed, some subtly, others blatantly. This made it a good idea to have a title that explained the new secret origins of DC's characters. This series was entitled "Secret Origins."

The Creeper story was not one of Giffen's better art jobs, so let's concentrate on the Alan Scott Green Lantern tale. Seven pages of 22, and an ad.

A comic from the far off days of yore, when Billy Batson was a superhero and the Justice Society hadn't been stunk out by Magog trashing up the place yet!

Since Alan Scott has returned to the DCU... sorta, I thought that people might be interested to see what his original incarnation was like. So here's Made of Wood, a mystery where he returns to Gotham to help solve a fifty year old mystery...

These posts are dedicated to Paul Tobin, who said that "Detective Comics" is an oxymoron as superhero comics aren't the right genre or medium for actual detective stories.
