In the comments to these weekly posts (and only these posts), it's your chance to go as off topic as you like. Talk about non-comics stuff, thread derail, and just generally chat amongst yourselves.
In a couple of somewhat on topic pieces of info. Black Panther just topped $1 BILLION in worldwide box office. That's... astounding!
And the Titans TV series has confirmed that Jason Todd and Roy Harper will both show up... I wonder if "The Outlaws" will be a thing?
"Star Wars: Rebels" came to an end, mostly not in ways I was expecting, which is always fun, explaining a few things that needed to be explained in light of it's position within the timeline, and leaving the door open for a possibly awesome sequel series.
Meanwhile,David Jon Favreau has been announced as developing the new live action Star Wars TV series. Whilst viewed as "a safe pair of hands", it's perhaps a bit disappointing that the SW universe is going to be defined by "a safe pair of hands" and, whilst this is not his fault personally, yet another middle aged white guy.
Back in the real world, the apparent attempted murder of a retired Russian spy (and his daughter) by the use of military-grade nerve agent has caused a serious rift between the UK and Russia (hardly on the best of terms already), with Prime Minister May giving the Russian Government until midnight tonight to provide an explanation, or face as yet unspecified consequences
Following a change in the rules presidential term limits, President Xi Jinping of China looks set to continue for a good while longer. Party run newspapers and media have been quick to claim that this doesn't mean he WILL serve as President for life... it just means he CAN if he wants to (since elections are not exactly democratic in China).
POTUS 45 is making global waves through a combination of tariffs imposition on certain imports (A decision which cost him his Senior Economic Advisor), and an incredible gamble in agreeing to meet with North Korea's Kim Jung Un.
And stop press news: Rex Tillerson has been fired as Secretary of State. Do you think the White House staff bother with proper "Goodbye" parties anymore, or do they just all have lunch twice a week and the odds are good that it'll be SOMEONE'S leaving do?
The UK lost one of the very last of it's old-time variety acts in 90 year old Ken Dodd, noted for his remarkably long career, a and his incredibly long live shows even when he was performing in his 80's (It was not uncommon for a performance that started at 7:30pm to not actually finish until after 1am).
France lost Hubert de Givenchy, designer of the infmaous "little black dress" as worn by Audrey Hepburn.
A veritable convocation of Doctor Who podcasts are getting together for Who Against Guns to raise funds to support for organisations seeking to prevent gun violence. Details can be found on that link.
An incredible line up of podcasters and even writers and creators like Andrew Smith,Paul Cornell, and some chap named Steven Moffatt are also joining in on a commentary on the final Patrick Troughton story "The War Games".
The Winter Paralympic Games are underway in Pyeongchang, and are their usual impressive, but with an ongoing "Well, don't I feel inadequate now?", viewing experience.
Oh, and vaguely on topic, it's Al Jaffee's 96th birthday!
