I was tempted to make a "let slip the dogs of war" reference, but I already did that in a recent Rom post.

In this one, the intense training is a thrilling, compelling way to present the complicated dynamic between a mother and daughter. It’s about raising a child, having expectations for that child, and navigating the ambiguity of those expectations. -- Tom King

My oldest son became a huge WWE fan. That was not my nerd growing up, but he got way into it, the way I got into comics as a kid. And remembering how my parents sort of very much did not enjoy my comics and did not participate in my hobby, I kind of wanted to do the opposite. So I decided to watch WWE with him, and read the books, and buy the toys, and I got very much into watching it. I became fascinated with the way they just had four corners of a ring to tell, like, 80 years of storytelling. -- Tom King

I always want to hide myself in my stories. I never set out to tell a personal story, I always think, "Oh, this is going to be a nice little fiction." And then I look back and I was like, "Oh no, this was all scraping my own heart and soul out." But legacy is important. My father wanted to be a novelist and never achieved that goal; wanted to be a writer in Hollywood, never achieved that goal. And my mother was a studio executive who was very much — they were very, very divorced, I would say would be a way to qualify them. Because he didn’t succeed in his business, my father couldn’t support his family, and had to disappear from my life. And so my mother was very much like, "You can’t go into the creative arts, because I’ve seen that tear a man apart." And then I’ve somehow found myself entirely ensconced in creative arts. So I feel that pain of the legacy of your parents, and how it shapes you, and how you run from it, and then you end up just running around a track to where you started. -- Tom King

Lady Shiva is the best hand-to-hand fighter in the DC universe. Male, female, what have you, she’s number one. And Black Canary is number two. This is a fight that if Batman got in the ring, he’d get his ass kicked by both of these women. And I say that as a guy who’s written hundreds of issues with Batman and loves the character, but that’s what this fight is about. It’s about who is the best fighter in the DC universe. -- Tom King

So, the last issue was less about the monster-fighting than it was Superman preparing for his proposal to Lois Lane. In this second issue Kong does not even appear, but we get an insight into the Bat-fmaily dynamics in this Elseworlds as they deal with a monstr attacking Gotham City. A giant, sonic-based bat, of course. What possible weak points could it have?

I've posted from Whitney Avalon's work before (most notably her Agent Carter torch-song "I'm Still Waiting for That Dance")

She also has a whole series of pop culture rap battles, but this one I'd missed until today

So to end the weekend... )

One of the things that comics featuring music, or sonic, abilities have a problem with is that, though imagination is a wonderful thing. comics are pretty much the definition of a silent media.

So DC has fixed that with a trailer, and song, to launch Meg Cabot's new graphic novel about a young Dinah Drake Lance.

Thirteen-year-old Dinah Lance knows exactly what she wants, who she is, and where she’s going. She plans on winning the battle of the bands with her two best friends, then she’ll join the junior police academy to solve crimes just like her dad. When a mysterious figure keeps getting in the way of Dinah’s goals and threatens her friends and family, she’ll learn more about herself and her mother’s secret past, and about navigating the various power chords of life. This magnetic story features expressive and energetic art by Cara McGee to match the trademark attitude and spunk of Meg Cabot’s characters and dialogue.

If the name Meg Cabot is familiar, it might be because the she is the author of "The Princess Diaries"

Singalong under the cut, and the art looks delightfu!

Margot Robbie posted this image on Instagram which has been confirmed as the formal title for the the movie, so prepare yourself for

Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)

The cast so far is;

Mary Elizabeth Winstead as the Helena Bertinelli/Huntress
Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Dinah Lance/Black Canary
Rosie Perez as GCPD Detective Renee Montoya
Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain

I didn't know it had been announced that Ewan McGregor will be the villain, as Black Mask, which could be interesting.

The storyline is that apparently after breaking up with the Joker, Harley gets involved with the three heroes in saving Cassandra Cain from some plan the Black Mask has.

Writer is Christina Hodson (Who wrote the forthcoming Bumblebee movie, which actually looks to be a FUN TF film, and will be writing Batgirl)

Devin Grayson wrote a mid-1990s ARSENAL miniseries. In the first issue, there is a flashback to when Roy Harper detoxed from heroin, a retelling of GREEN LANTERN/GREEN ARROW #86. There is some extra dialog.

Justice League of America #224 was one of the first comics Kurt Busiek ever wrote - he was 23 at the time - and it's a great little done-in-one. The villain has a cool power, and the Justice League comes across as smart and strategic.

Plus, that cover has Red Tornado's dismembered torso.
