mistygeek: (Lady Blackhawk Punch!)

I didn't care for what DC did with the Blackhawks. Putting it simply, I think it ranged from dull in the 1960s to "you should just let it die with some dignity" almost anytime after that. That said I do love Zinda Blake, Lady Blackhawk. I really do. At least I love her modem incarnation. Yes, there are some things I'd rather not talk about, but when so many different writers handle these characters you have to have some give.

Have some scans light backstory )
Meet "The Blonde Bomber."

In Military Comics #20 (1943) a woman appears who attempts to become the first woman member of the Blackhawks. She looks and behaves will Zinda will almost two decades later.

Skip the back story and read the scans. That's why you're here right? )

Gotta say, compared to last year, this year has been good to me and am very much looking forward to 2012! :)

Among the positives of 2011...I guess rejoining this comm after my two year hiatus from it. I was originally a member of the LJ comm before it got flushed by the LJ Gods, and was mostly active there in 2007-2008 (around the time I actually got into mainstream comics). Admittedly I was reluctant to rejoin this comm at first since I noticed things were a bit...well *different* from the original LJ version, but after being here the last couple of months, I gotta say it's been worth it. :}

Comics-wise? Heh...honestly? I've only read three titles that were published this year prior to the relaunch: Power Girl, Gotham City Sirens, and Birds of Prey Vol. 2; all of them being girl-leading books. (You are all now free to tell me I've missed out on a lot. I've had one person tell me that already). :P

All three books were okay this year. Admittedly I felt Power Girl's book was better under the Jimmy Palmiotti/Amanda Conner team since they captured the character's wit and essence beautifully while bringing a sense of fun to the book. It was certainly a nice change of pace from the grim and gritty books I was accustomed to reading. Under Judd Winick...the book had its moments but didn't have the same flavour from the previous run. :(

So now I wrap up this post (and the last remaining hours of the year) with my favourite BOP scene of 2011!!!! :D

Is there booze? Oh yes. Epic fun? Most definitely. Naked beefcakey men? Haha, you'll have to click and see! ;) )

As the saying goes...HAPPY NEW YEAR PEEPS! ;)

Consistent with previous rumours that TDKR is going the Frank Miller route with Catwoman's origin:

"Catwoman is apparently one of the most well written characters we’ve seen in these movies so far and she could potentially steal the show the way Heath Ledger did last time. She does some cool stuff in the movie like jumping out of windows and stealing the Batpod. Her back story is that she has a history of abuse and works as a stripper and is also a pickpocket."

Source.

Right now I'm taking this with a grain of salt, but there's also mention that the previous image we saw of Anne's Catwoman earlier isn't the full Catwoman costume and that she will wear the cat-eared cowl later on the film.

Thoughts?

This issue of Birds of Prey was really good, and full of kickass moments. I highly recommend getting it. Also, no more Benes artwork! I don't know if it was that the story got a lot better all of a sudden, or if his pencils detracted so much from my enjoyment of the comic, but this issue was back to almost feeling like the old Birds of Prey.

Gail Simone's message board at CBR, You'll All Be Sorry, recently featured a whole new approach to the Birds of Prey. The ramifications of this will shock the DC Universe! Scans under the cut.
Welcome back, Gail! )

Four pages from this week's BATMAN: CONFIDENTIAL, and the continuing saga of Batman vs old Blackhawk enemies.

In which Zinda is awesomely incompetent and plot-devicey, because that's what Birds are for these days. )

Sorta continuing my previous posts of cute kids from the DCU.

I like Sin and thought there was a lot of potential in her and Dinah's relationship. I definitely hate what happened to her and the apparent reasons why. I thought I would go through Sin's brief appearance (12 issues in all) and subsequent disappearance. Warning: this post contains an amazing amount of Dinah being awesome and badass.

From issues #92-#95 of Birds of Prey (collected in TPB Vol 5: Perfect Pitch) There are a lot of scans here, but I don't go over the 7 page rule for any issue.
