I picked this up on a whim at my gaming shop.  Mostly because of the price.  But I have to say I'm interested.

Cover and the first four pages after cut.

High hopes? )

The previews are up, and it feels like classic Doom. IGN has the preview, and the Doom we all love as a villain is up to bat. The cunning, ruthless Doom.

Hey, boss, why are you looking at me like that? )

Please, please, please, when you're composing your posts, remember to include at the very minimum, the title and issue number of the comic you're posting.

Ideally, include a full list of selected tags - as noted by [personal profile] schmevil, until we've worked out a way round the tag trolling, a C&Ped list of suggested tags is extremely helpful.

However, the absolute minimum that should be included in the post is the title and issue number. Without that basic information it's impossible for us to even think about tagging and we're having numerous instances where we're having to ask.

So, please, remember to include the title and issue number within the body of your post.

Many thanks.

As some might know, when Jim Shooter was editor-in-chief of Marvel, he had an edict in place preventing Jean Grey from being brought back to life. This was because he felt that anyone who killed as many people as Dark Phoenix needed to either be killed off or suffer for eternity. (If Claremont or Byrne had their druthers, she would have remained alive at the end of the Phoenix Saga, which was their original plan.)

Kurt Busiek, back when he was just a fan, was the one who came up with how to revive Jean Grey without violating Shooter's edict. That's why there's a thank you to him in the credits of the comic in which she comes back.

Recently, Busiek posted on his blog his original notes detailing the whole of his story idea. Providing context, he explains, "Sometime between then and May 1982, when I graduated college and sold my first script, I started taking notes for various Marvel series I hoped to write someday, to make sure I didn't forget any of my 'great ideas,' few of which were great, or even memorable."

The one constant in the Marvel universe is that things change. Like the Thunderbolts. IGN has the interview with the creative team behind it all, and how things shake up after Siege.

Hello everybody. This is my first post on this incarnation of S_D, and I wanted to bring some Beast/Brand to you all. Checked Agent Brand's tag and did not find this, so I hope it's not an untagged repeat.

How it began... (and perhaps how it ends since SWORD was cancelled :( )

So Brian Reeds is writing an American Son miniseries which deals with the fallout of Harry Osborn in Dark Reign. He's promising the return of a favorite character and the resolution to a classic storyline that fans have been clamoring to see brought up again.

From Adventure Comics 462 in 1979.

This is the death of Bruce Wayne. Bruce looks like he is in his 60s here. Dick is still Robin but is all grown up now, and his biological daughter Helena is the Huntress.

Bruce comes out of a year long retirement one year after Selina his wife was shot and killed.

If this issue isn't deserving of the title "Manly Tears", I don't know what is...

The comic is 68 pages, but the Batman part is just the beginning.

While I think BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES is pretty much the definitive Batman, and its Two-Face to be near-perfect in spirit, I hate the episode "Judgment Day." Y'know, the one with "The Judge."

It's so close to being something brilliant, but I won't spoil why for those who haven't seen the episode (although really, is there anyone here who hasn't? Most everyone here's seen and loved BTAS, right?). I'll go into details behind the cut, as we delve into this story from 1997's BATMAN: SHADOW OF THE BAT #62 and #63, which introduced a new vigilante who specifically targeted Two-Face's men.

Who could he *possibly* be? Alfred, perhaps? )

From the L.A. Times Blog http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/herocomplex/2010/02/new-batman-dvd-to-peek-out-from-under-the-red-hood.html

Written by Judd Winick and based on his 2005 Batman comics story line, it's Batman versus another vigilante, Red Hood, who doesn't mind cleaning up Gotham by leaving dead bodies in his wake. Animated guru Bruce Timm exec produces this pretty violent look into crime on the streets, and it's directed by "Superman Doomsday" co-director Brandon Vietti, with a cavalcade of stars as voice talent. It all starts with Bruce Greenwood ("Star Trek") as Batman, then continues with "Supernatural" star Jensen Ackles as Red Hood, Neil Patrick Harris ("How I Met Your Mother") as Nightwing, John DiMaggio ("Futurama") as the Joker and Jason Isaacs (the Harry Potter films) as Ra's Al Ghul.
This was one of the most popular story lines to come out of Batman in recent history.

Screen cap of JToddz. Looks so *malevolent. * Rawr!

Edit: Update: I LOL'd at this article about Jensen Ackles' deep bass, thought you might, too: http://www.examiner.com/x-35662-LA-TV-Insider-Examiner~y2010m2d9-Jensen-Ackles-and-Neil-Patrick-Harris-to-costar-in-new-Batman-DVD

For legality, I was too lazy to scan anything from Under the Hood, and this was already scanned....
