GREEN LANTERN EMERALD DAWN #1:

GREEN LANTERN EMERALD DAWN #1 was the start of the origin for the Post-Crisis Hal Jordan. It had Hal serving 90 days on a drunk driving charge, and also established a lot of the "Hal Jordan: Screw-up!" characterization that was very common for a while. Still is, in some ways.

Hal Jordan needs a mask in a hurry

Here are two examples of two times Hal Jordan, having just gotten his Green Lantern ring for the first time, needed a mask in a hurry. One time he wanted one. The other time...

GREEN LANTERN: EMERALD DAWN I and II was the post-Crisis origin of Hal Jordan as Green Lantern. It added the odd "Hal Jordan was convicted of drunk driving and served 90 days" that was dropped by INFINITE CRISIS. But it put elements to Sinestro's background that have continued to this day, although rarely expanded upon.

EMERALD DAWN II: The Trial of Sinestro

So, how sympathetic should Thaal Sinestro be? Did he do all he could to protect his world and then got screwed over for it? Why did he take over Korugar in the first place?

I just found my copy of "The Shadow Strikes!" #7, March 1990, which is a tribute to another Shadow incarnation, the radio show.

Eight pages of twenty-four of the lead story, one page of three of the backup feature.
( Criminals are a cowardly, superstitious lot )
Your thoughts and comments?
Remember, the weed of crime bears bitter fruit! The Shadow knows!

We return to the mixed-up crazy crack of the Amalgam Universe with one of the most requested titles from our last go around.
Combining the preachiness and messiah complex of Max/Erik "Magnus" Eisenhardt/Lensherr and the eccentric scheming of Dr. Will "Balls Crazy" Magnus gets you...

For the entirety of the crossover the Parasites attacks were very US based (as the aliens ship crashed near Metropolis), the only attacks that occurred outside of the US was this annual in which some of the Parasites come to England. (Though the latest New Blood related story seems to imply despite what we see of the Parasites attack patterns they likely did go global but that's a post for another day)

Emerald Twilight: The original plan
Feb. 20th, 2011 10:34 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
In the early 1990s DC tried to relaunch the Green Lantern comic(cancelled a decade ago) under Gerard Jones. Hal Jordan was rescued from the depravity of his Action Comics Weekly days and restored to his status as the main Green Lantern. However sales remained low, and it looked like Green Lantern would be cancelled once again. So DC ran the infamous Emerald Twilight story arc, where Hal went mad and destroyed the Green Lantern Corps, followed by a new, younger character, Kyle Rayner, taking over the Green Lantern mantle.

But wait! Even before Emerald Twilight DC already had plan for replacing Hal Jordan and breathing new life into the Green Lantern series. Gerard Jones had a story arc planned from #48-50(which would eventually become Emerald Twilight) that would bring an end to Hal's career as Green Lantern.

This issue in the overall Bloodlines storyline is probably the oddest in both its extreme violence and sexual themes that run through the issue.

Earlier I posted scans from Hal Jordan's old Green Lantern run, showing his eventual attempts at recovering from the aimless drifter his character had become over the 70s and 80s before Emerald Twilight put an end to it. Continuing from there...

( 1 scan from GL v.3 #26, 5 from #32, 6 from #33, 6 from #34 & 6 from #35 )

When I first read Green Lantern, I was already well into the Kyle Rayner era. Later, reading up on Hal Jordan, I gathered that his character went a slow degradation over the 70s and 80s, starting with quitting his job and getting dumped by Carol Ferris, then wandering from job to job, girlfriend to girlfriend, and ultimately ending up as a middle-aged, unemployed loser.

I've started reading his old series only recently, and I found that towards the end Hal was actually starting to recover and get his life back on track. ( Read more... )
