once upon a time, Batman realized stemming the tide of crime wasn't a one man fight.

It's never been, really, even for a Batgod- so for a man who's been at the job for 1 1/2 years, it's almost impossible to be effective one hundred percent time.

Criminals like the afro-sporting something-planning Peter Scotta can get lucky, and Batman can't defend himself against that luck. He needs to mitigate that factor with help...

But no one's helping him, because he can't mitigate people's feelings either...  )

For Halloween week, a Halloween tale, from #20 of SUPER FRIENDS, which continues to be leagues more awesome than the majority of DC's adult fare.

It has recently come to my attention that X-Men Legacy #228 features the return of one of my all time favorite X-Villians, the one I have been working on a megapost for since S_D moved to IJ, Emplate.

And I find myself amazed at the injustice done, because nothing of his return has been posted here. Sadly, I am saving up for a laptop that isn't a fancy paperweight, otherwise I would aquire the issue myself and post the best bits here (or just save the stuff for the megapost).

So yes, this is my way of begging someone to post some Emplate here.

((I can't remember the creative team on this issue (The Generation X Holiday Special), and don't have access, so if anyone could let me know so I can put in the right tags...))

Okay, so it's common knowledge that Flash's rogues were well represented among the Suicide Squad by Digger Harkness aka Captain Boomerang. However, old Boomerbutt wasn't the only one of Flash's perennial foes to 'volunteer' for this ragtag bunch. Leonard Snart, who you may know better as the cool, cruel Captain Cold, pitched in once or twice as well.

Two pages out of twenty-two from Suicide Squad #17 and #18 each. Credits for these pages go to John Ostrander's mighty pen and Luke McDonnell's thousand words. Scans are not mine.

- ha.

"Sins Past" did to Norman Osborn what Identity Crisis did to Doctor Light, in terms of turning him into an utterly unsalvageable and inherently intolerable character, except that DC didn't compound their mistake by trying to turn Doctor Light into the Dick Cheney of the DCU.

For years, the official word on the original Flash was that he didn't need to wear a mask because he constantly kept up a state of vibration that blurred his features enough to make them unrecognizable. This never seemed plausible to me, anyway; depending on how automatic vibrating your face could be (would it be like constantly blinking fast every time you're in public?), the Flash was knocked unconscious or gassed or drugged plenty of times in those Golden Age stories, so crooks got a good long look at his mug. (Later, around 1978, Jay Garrick publicly announced his true identity, being semi-retired anyway. The funny part is that, in the early stories following his origin, Jay not only didn't try to conceal his powers as his civilian self, he went out of his way to flaunt them in front of crowds. This sure seems understandable; he was a college student, a young man suddenly given an astonishing gift and how many people of that age would not want to show it off? Actually, how many would think there would be any reason to hide their new abilities?

The Doom That Came To Gotham.

Mike Mignola writes an Elseworlds crossover between Batman...

...and the Cthulhu mythos.

In fact, the name's a nod to H.P. Lovecraft's short story, 'The Doom That Came To Sarnath.' )

Page count: 16 out of 48. And man, I had to cut a lot of good stuff (snarky commentary, homages, references) to pare it down that far. Since this is out of print and pretty hard to find, is there any chance of being allowed to post more than the usual 1/3 limit?

Since its Halloween and all, I thought I'd post one of my favorite sequences from one of my favorite comics ever, Courtney Crumrin.

This series is printed through Oni Press and is typically marketed to the young adult Harry Potter crowd but it's really a decent read for older crowds as well.

These scans are from the first issue of the second story arc Courtney Crumrin and the Coven of Mystics. Courtney is a rather cynical mean spirited girl who dabbles in magic and lives with her rather shallow parents and her warlock uncle on the edge of a creepy wood filled with goblins and fairies and other "Night Things" on a regular basis.

One day she feels something in the woods that is more horrible than usual and proceeds to investigate.

Kevin Conroy recently voiced a character on The Venture Brothers.

Suffice it to say he was the best part of an already superb episode.
