Issue #1087'd ended on the decapitation of the Shadow Angel, puppet populist revolutionary set up by the Orgham matriarch Dariah to psychologically cement her family's control over Gotham City, by the Joker's Daughter.

#1088 opened on Duela Dent sighing over the Angel's inadequacy as a threat to the status quo from what'd been his broadcast pulpit: " You deserve better, Gotham. "

She gave them better: " I went out and planted some funny explosives in ordinary neighborhoods tonight. "

She explained why. )

The revolution's the puppet one the Orgham family put up in issue #1086 - Gothamites they'd worked up and infused with spirits, led by the figurehead Shadow Angel against Gotham City's " elites ".

Against it was Batman, most explicit of the challenges to the Orghams' total metaphysical control over Gotham, returned from the near-total defeat they'd dealt him.

With him was Nightwing, Azrael, and Batgirl - part of the response he'd been organizing.

Against them was a possessed mob. )

It's continuing from issue #1085 - Batman leveraging Gotham's " darkness " against the order the Orgham family'd imposed on the city.

Having recruited the Maestro and Mr. Freeze, he came next to Harvey Dent.

Two-Face, running a low-key operation on Gotham's rails, met him gun in hand.

Two-Face's goons lay defeated by Batman. )

From the time she was reintroduced, comics fans, except for those that actually like Duella (Believe it or not, there are some), had wanted Harley to beat her up. It finally happened in New Suicide Squad #3.

The art wasn't good, but the punchline made it worth it.

So... since we've been discussing the Joker's Daughter, why not look at her first real issue? She debuted one issue before this, but this is her official debut.

Warning for violence and self-harm.

I'm pretty sure nobody is that interested in what happens with Duela after that other post. Red Hood/Arsenal crashed what could have been an interesting arc into the ground and left something boring behind.

BUT

I'm also pretty sure that nobody could have guessed just HOW bad the 'payoff' would be. And since I don't want anyone's rose tinted glasses to go unshattered...

Also, still nothing that looks like a spoiler or a big reveal, so feel free to check it out.

OK, now that I've got my breath back from reading Titans #23 - jeez, did Roy drop a bag of flaming dog poop on Didio's front porch or something? - I've remembered I recently came across Teen Titans #53, which is both the origin issue and the breakup issue. (Ironically, it's also the first issue of OTT I ever bought, back in the day.)

It has Guardian and Bumblebee minding the store at OTT HQ, and reading in a big record book of the Titans' first adventure, the one reworked in Year One: the heroes going rogue, the sidekicks joining forces, trading off sidekick/hero matchups, breaking the evil alien influence etc. Roy was a rough fit even then, but the standoffishness was on Roy's side, according to this:

And it was a much-grown Roy who got to do the honors of disbanding the original Titans.

Here's how he felt about them all in the end. )

I just don't even know what to make of Titans #23, after rereading this issue.
