"Happy 36 Anniversary to Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, which reinvigorated comics. As a superfan of Miller’s work on Daredevil, I remember this day well." -- James Gunn

Yesterday was the 36th anniversary of The Dark Knight Returns. Gunn shared two pieces of art that paid homage to the original comic with different incarnations of Batman that I felt were funny.

Carrie Kelley is in my opinion the best Robin and now she's getting her own graphic novel soon. Frank Miller is writing and Ben Caldwell is illustrating. It appears to be a prequel from before she met Batman.

It's a little late for the 80th Anniversary of my favourite bird boy hero, but it's never to late to appreciate him

I might, just MIGHT, mind you, have given in to temptation and got myself another Mitch Ballard commission.

And you KNOW that means quality! :) )

We need some positivity in these... somewhat stressful times, so it's time for some fan art, though not quite fan art, as the artist in question is not only a pro, but one of the best in the business, but this is something they did for fun, so that's good enough for me!

Chris Samnee's annual Batman themed Inktober (Which he has dubbed Batober, of course) has been a high point of the event for a few years now, and 2020 is no exception. I love that he doesn't always make the obvious choices and pulls from both comics and BTAS!

If you enjoy them, check out his Twitter, where he also posts some of the early deafts and explains design choices.and keep an eye out as he usually e-bay's them eventually.

Just SOOOOOOO DAMN GOOD! )

"These young women are very much their own characters. They're very much of a generation that is not as plagued by the particular demons that their fathers were. Lara did not lose a planet or a species. And Carrie's parents were a couple of potheads whom she doesn't even really think about all that much. Two very different characters of a very new generation." -- Frank Miller

"My feeling was they’d never be that good of friends anyway. They’d kind of disagree on certain fundamental things. Superman can afford to be as nice about crime as he is, because he can fly, and he can do anything. He can beat up God if he wants to. But Batman has trained to fight a much tougher battle, and to me they were natural antagonists. But also, the main reason for doing anything; It made a good story."

"Batman isn't interesting because he has a cool car. It's great that he has a cool car. But he's interesting because he straightens the world out. And he brings order to a very chaotic world. Especially when you're a child. You need somebody, even if it's a fictional character, to tell you that the world makes sense and that the good guys can win. That's what these heroes are for."

- Frank Miller
