Back when the New52 was launched a big deal was made about Alan Scott, Green Lantern, now being gay.

But the gay Alan Scott was not the one we had known since the 1940's, it was an entirely NEW Alan Scott, so whilst increased representation is a good thing, it felt a lot less significant because of the circumstances...

Infinite Frontiers is changing that )

It's been too long since I did one of these, but this is an example that was too much fun not to share, as I had the pleasure of sort of starting something! :) (plus it makes a nice showcase of an artist I like)

Luciano Vecchio is a professional Argentinian artist whose work on Ironheart has been deeply appealling.

He has a somewhat cartoony style which isn't too common these days (shades of Alan Davis perhaps?), and with a complete lack of fear of actually making comics look brightly coloured.

So when he opened up single-figure commissions, you can imagine who I might have wanted him to have a go at! :) (Yeah, not Robin, though it was tempting... as was a Saint Seiya character (which is still big in Argentina) maybe another time!)

Instead I went for my favourite selfsoulfriends, and bot am I glad I did!

And then it sort of snowballed... or maybe Cannonballed would be a better term :) )

I honestly had trouble with this one. Because in truth? There is more than one character I'd like to see come back from the dead.

The characters I speak of all populated a world that was originally five decades old. They lived on a world where the first superheroes appeared and united during World War II and formed the first superhero team in the history of superhero teams. These were the characters that aged in real time, married, and had families of their own. Their own children eventually took over their jobs as superheroes once they were old and retired or had passed on after a long, fruitful life. Their own legacy even led the arrival of a new generation of superheroes that were more diverse than their predecessors.

I am of course, talking about the pre-Crisis Earth-2 in all its Golden Age glory! )

In the grand tradition of such things, DC have issued a new cryptic teaser image for their... well, let's be charitable and call it "controversial"... Brightest Day series...

Well, my first post at InsaneJournal's Scans_Daily was Kyle Rayner's first transformation in Ion, so, I decided to share the end of The Power of Ion arc, since it's one of my favorite comic book scenes ever.
